Sprott had its origins in Sprott Securities Ltd., a brokerage firm founded in 1981 by Eric Sprott. Today, Sprott manages approximately $7.4 billion in assets and operates through four businesses: Asset Management, Physical Bullion, Private Equity and Debt and Wealth Management.

Mr. John Embry, Senior Advisor, Sprott Inc. joined Sprott Asset Management Inc. as chief investment strategist in March 2003 with focus on the Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund and the Sprott Strategic Offshore Gold Fund Ltd. He played an instrumental role in the corporate and investment policy of the firm. Embry is an expert in the precious metals industry, having researched the gold sector for more than 30 years, and has been managing investment portfolios since the late 60’s.

John, who was born in Washington D.C. at the outset of the Second World War migrated to Canada at a young age. After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Embry began his investment career as a stock selection analyst and portfolio manager at Great West Life. He then became vice president of pension investments for the entire firm. After 23 years with the company, Embry became a partner with United Bond and Share, the investment counseling firm acquired by Royal Bank in 1987. Embry was vice president equities and portfolio manager at RBC Global Investment Management, a $33 billion organization where he oversaw $5 billion in assets, including the flagship $2.9 billion Royal Canadian Equity Fund and the $250 million Royal Precious Metals Fund. For 15 years, The Royal Precious Metals Fund was No. 1 ranked fund in North America for its 2002 net performance of 153 percent. He is currently serving as a senior advisor at Sprott Inc. focusing on global economics and precious metals.

Peter Grosskopf, CEO and Director, Sprott Inc. Over the course of his career, Peter has established a track record of successfully building and growing businesses with more than 24 years of experience in the financial services industry. In addition to his role at Sprott, he also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sprott Resource Lending Corp. and President of Sprott Consulting. Prior to joining Sprott, he was President of Cormark Securities Inc. and one of the co-founders of Newcrest Capital Inc., which was acquired by the TD Bank Financial Group. Peter has extensive experience as an advisor and underwriter to companies in a wide variety of sectors.
